V.I.N. Help

Well, I am looking to purchase a 1976 F-250 4x4 Highboy and I asked the owner to supply me with the VIN number but it is only ten digits and I can't seem to perform any kind of a search on it. Does anyone know of a classic auto web site that does this, and secondly does anyone have a VIN decoder so I can figure out what I'm buying. Thanks.

Post it here. We can help. Just use XXX for the last 3 numbers. It is safer that way.

Y = 360 V8
R = built in San Jose,Ca.

Not sure on the A, could just be part of the sequential build number.

ford used numbers AND LETTERS in the sequential build number.
