Nerf Bars on F-250
Just bought an 02 F-250 XLT 5.4 V8 SuperCab. It's a bit high to step into (especially for the special lady), so I've looked into adding either black or chrome Nerf Bars. I know Ford makes their own, and I've seen Westin attractively priced. I have a quote from my dealer for $290 for black Westin or $390 for chrome Ford (both include installation).
I'm a novice at this stuff and wondered if there's anything I need to be wary of in using Nerf Bars on a SuperDuty, if the price looked right, and if anyone had problems with either Ford or Westin bars.
Thanks much for any help.

Ebay has tons of different nerf bars, I got my Dee Zee's for $99 brand new in the box.
These are the easiest bolt on in the world, dont pay for Installation,
If you have a 9/16 wrench you can put them on!! No drilling needed, all the holes are there, at least on a reg cab.

I got mine, Ford chrome, from the dealer for $500 ($250 USD) tax in (7%), installed. They were new take offs from a truck the dealer ordered for stock. The buyer didn't want them so he gave me a deal on them. They're brain dead simple to install so I wouldn't pay for that, or at least I wouldn't pay much.
I wasn't sure at first if I wanted them either but they are darn convenient, and the girlfriend wouldn't (couldn't?) ride in the truck without them.
I've got pics in my gallery.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Apr-02 AT 08:51 PM (EST)]I have chrome Westin bars on my '01 SC F350. I think they look great. Paid $295 for them carry out. (black were $229) Took about 25 minutes to install. They mount with brackets that use pre-existing holes on the truck.
As far as color goes that's a personal choice. I like black bars on a light color truck (white, silver, beige) and the chrome ones on a dark color truck (red, black, green, blue).
Mine is The darker Torredor Red and they stand out.

I did not order my truck, I got in in oct of 01 so it was slim pickens, weeks of searching for a truck with the options I wanted. Mine came with the black platform type step , had the dealer take them off and I sold them on ebay, I didn't like the looks of them so basicly sold them and got the ones I wanted and still had some cash left to get me some coffee.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Apr-02 AT 11:27 PM (EST)]>why didnt you guys buy them from the factory to start with
>on my 2001 they were 75.00 from factory best price I could
>find any where
You must have a Lariet. That trim level includes the black plastic running boards as standard. An upgrade to the chrome tubular steps is $75.
If you have an XLT or XL trim level the running boards are not standard. On these trim levels the black running boards are a $370 option and the chrome tubular steps are $445.
I wanted an XLT as I didn't want Lariet's leather (bad experience on a previous vehicle). Rather than pay $445 for the chrome ones I paid the $295 from a local truck acc store and had them on in a few minutes.

I put on a set of westons fot 200.00 and installed my self
Very easy all of the bolt holes are there but the only thing
that might be negative is that if you hit or run over something
such as a big rock it could cave in some of the body. I am trying
to remember there is another company out there that has in same
price range that they bolt to the frame that way if you do it or run
over something it will only bend the ner bar not the body.
Hope this helps but I have not run over anything and they still
look good. F250 Superduty Ext cab longbed V10 4.30 ls

Thanks for all of the help so far, but I have another question. I took some of the advice here and bought some Westin bars over the 'Net and had them delivered yesterday. I am trying to install them right now, but the brackets don't line up with the holes from the factory. Of course Westin's customer support line is closed on Saturday (pretty disappointing that customer support for installation isn't available on weekends at all), so they are no help right now.
Has anyone else experienced this? From the instructions, it looks like the 3 holes should line up pretty squarely, but I could only get 2 to line up by putting the mounting bracket on at a funny angle (and I know that's not how it's supposed to work). Could they (US Truck Accessory Whse) have sent me the wrong mounting brackets?
Thanks again.
