Im posting this here as well as the I-6 section because Im sure Im not the first to want to do this and would like to know how it has been done and how it worked.
quick question re: smog pump
if I take it right out what do i do with the hoses? I would like to take it out and move the altenator up to that bracket. (I like water alt doesnt) that would put it almost a foot higher and farther from the flood
any help would be great
thanks
montster
Check your measurements on the alternator. Some of them use a 7" (between mounting holes) and some us 9" large case alternators. If you build your own brackets there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to make it work although you might be best to go to a small case alternator if you don't already have one.
I had a '67 with an '81 300-6 in it and the alternator was mounted to the motor at the same level as the smog pump on my '85. Either the bracket can move straight up or the earlier brackets mount higher, it's one of those but i'm not sure. also like was said, if you're making your own brackets you can put it where ever you want.
