Question How can I add cruise control?

96 E-150 Clubwagon, 5.8L.

I need cruise control real bad. Long trips make the ole' lead foot cramp up. Can one be retro fitted into it or is there an aftermarket one I can buy?

Thanks

i know they used to sell aftermarket kits; i had a couple put on my cars in the 70's & 80's. i bet you can find it at an auto supply place somewhere, but it may take a little digging.

Sears used to make one of the best 'aftermarket' cruise controls.
Had 'set','resume','coast','accelerate'..
Don't know if they still make 1 or not..

Check out the wiring diagrams for your particular model vehicle.
Most likely, the wiring is already there for factory cruise control.
The servo electrical connector is unused and has a "cap".
If the wiring is there already, You'll probably only need the:

1. Electronic Servo with throttle control cable and mounting bracket.
2. Steering wheel with controls.

Any good yard should have these.
I'd be sure your model would need the whole steering wheel. The airbag needs properly swapped over.

Factory is the best option, since it features the tap-up/tap-down feature.

I've personally installed cruise in a 1988, easy as pie.

My 96 has a dealer installed cruise. Just an extra wand coming out of the steering column below the smart switch. Didn't require changing the wheel or any of that.
