Bench grinder

I remember years ago my shop teacher telling a story of a man who was seriously hurt by grinding wheel that exploded as he turned the bench grinder on and it was coming up to speed. I always find myself turning it on and walking away until it is humming along.

Have you ever heard of such a thing?

Yes.

If you drop a grinding wheel on the ground the rule of thumb is throw it away.
