Will Lincoln 317 valve covers fit my 312

I've got a Mercury 312 y-block and am looking to dress up the motor. Does anybody know if 1954-55 Lincoln 317 cu in valve covers will fit my Mercury 312? Visually they look the same, but I don't have the 317's in hand.

Thanks

No, I'm sorry they won't work a Lincoln engine is longer than a Ford engine.

Thanks for your quick response. I had a feeling they wouldn't fit. I might still see who much work it will be to graft the 317 covers to the base of my 312 covers. Would definately be nice trick to keep people guessing at shows/meets.

Find a set of 56-7 Mk1 covers and get out the tools. Those would fool everyone.

Thanks. I thought of putting MKII covers on, but since they are cast aluminum I think it would be next to impossible to modify them. At least with the standard lincoln covers I can fill the welds in with brass and paint/plate them.

A lot of work for sure however you can do a very nice job welding cast aluminum with a Henrob torch. Or a TIG if you know someone.

I saw a set on a Y marine setup some years ago, looked super.

I spoke to a guy in Kansas today who makes custom billet valve covers from a solid block of aluminum. I'm going to have him make me a custom set for my 368 Lincoln engine. He'll make them anyway you want them with any style roof you want . Engraving is also available any style or level you could ever want. Hey Carl do you have a photo of a Mrk II valve cover.

Ive been trying to get my digi cam back from my son. Wanted to take some pix of 3 bolt carb spacers and see if you had any intrest in casting?

2 and 3" tall for 97 and 94 type carbs, can be stacked if wanted.

Carl, I'm not sure what your needing, but sounds like something I could mill out of a solid block of Aluminum. I got the supplies I needed Friday to work on intake prototype project. It got down to -15 degrees here in Indiana last night. I thought of you. Tom
