Reading through this makes me wnt to change mine too. So the principal is to get as much ais into the box as possible. so a bigger opening into the air box would be in order?

Fair enough. Sorry I wasn't more clear. Often when typing, I can visualize what I'm trying to describe, but often forget most people haven't seen my truck or what I've done to it, so I have to remind myself to be more descriptive.
To answer a question further down the line... yes, a bigger airbox opening might help, however thats by far not the only restriction. The throttle body, certainly the intake, and definately the heads are excellent places to rework for better airflow.
Having an 8" intake hose won't do very much if you have a 2"x1.3" intake-side head port, other than take up space.
well water isnt good for it, so put a k&n in and you wont have to worry about a little bit of water seeing how there water resistant.
if you get water on a paper filter it will not flow very much air at all.
