windshield wiper

I recently bought a '94 F350 XLT Dually with 72,000 mi. for $10000. After looking around I think I got a good deal. I'm having a problem with the wipers; when you shut them off they just stop where ever they're at(like in the middle of the windshield) and the intermittent works intermittently. The lady I bought the truck from said she had the wiper mechanism replaced twice and it did not fix the problem. Has anyone else had this problem or know what is causing it. Since this is the first diesel I've owned how long should I go between oil changes?, I get 15 mpg whether pulling a stock trailer or going to and from work is this a reasonable mpg to expect?

not sure about your wiper prob, you should change the oil every 3000 miles, and use ford or equivelent coolant treatment to prevent corrsion and cylinder pitting.15 mpg is prob about right for a stock set up,if you open up the air intake system and exhaust system you should see a big increase in fuel milage.i went with the banks kit and i get around 20-22 mpg. with no turbo.yours should be turbo being a 94.therr are many other aftermarkit companys that make kits to boost hp,torque and mpg. take care of her and shell run a long, long time.

They do that, won't park after shutting off, loose intermittent after it works for a while, only one speed... You can replace the wiper motor and switch all day but 9 times out of ten that damn governor is what's broken

The problem you are having is the interval governor (or what ever the parts guys call it at the Ford place when you go to buy a new one)

If you remove your dash trim, and pop out the wiper switch, you can follow the wires to a "black box"- it mounts up right beside the fuse panel (behind the plastic- that is why I have to remove the trim to even see it) in my 90' for instance- you will have to trace the wires from the back of the wiper switch to locate it for sure in your truck.

twa do you know which diesel motor you have?
There were three in 94,
7.3 IDI has a round air cleaner and external fuel lines running from the injection pump to each injector.
7.3 IDI turbo has external fuel lines and an air cleaner box.
7.3 DI turbo has no external fuel lines and an air cleaner box.

The 7.3 DI turbo is a Power Stroke.

Got a 94 tubo 7.3 IDI 350 XLT 2WD and had the same problem.

Took the cover off the wiper gear mech - (located under the driver side cowl - you get at it from under the hood - Also had to remove the 3 bolts so I could move it around a little) - cleaned the contacts in there and stiffened the wiper contact springs (bent them ever so slightly) just a little and things have been fine since. You could see where the constant usage wore groves in the plastic.

Hope this helps
