Unhappy 83 f-150 idleing rough

i have a 83 f150 300 six. after it starts, it seems to idle rough. it feels like its missing but im not sure. when im at stop lights, it idles even slower and seems to sput more. is this a idle screw issue or fuel mixture?

do a search in this forum for egr valve tests and fixes , sounds like that may be part of your problem or possibly a sticking choke , the way to check your idle mixture is to adjust the screw and see if it changes anything ,good luck, bob

I replaced the cap, rotor, and spark plugs last sunday. it doens't miss anymore. one of the plugs had alot of corrosion on it, so no spark was coming from it. i still need to adjust the idle screw and the such. i have a friend that knows his stuff about carbs. thanks for all the input.

If you have only one bad plug, you may want to change your PCV valve. On an '83, it may not go to the intake manifold, but the plug on my 'vette nearest to the PCV intake is always the dirtiest.

another thing that i have trouble with is starting it up. your supposed to pump the gas twice to get my auto choke to turn on, it doesnt work right. i have to pump the gas while i start it to get it to start up.
from what i can tell is that when i just pump the gas twice to choke, the engine just turns over and over, never starting. someone told me that the auto choke is supposed to start the engine with a higher rpm then slow down after a minute or two. so im at a loss as to how to get it to start without pumping the gas.
