newer ford motor exchange???

I ran across a 4.6 out of a retired cop car, it has the DOHC, i was wondering if you can get an intake to switch them to carbureted and how much better would it run than my stock 351M.

i was reading yesterday in a feb 04 hot rod magazine. on page 18 the article mentioned that frpp is set to offer a single 4v intake along with a 4 weber carb intake for the 4.6 as well as a distributor conversion kit that can be retrofitted to any 4.6 mod. the parts will be offered in the upcoming ford racing proformance catalog. take care.

4.6 stuff is expensive, 4v 4.6 stuff is even more expensive, don't be shocked if that intake manifold is a thousand bucks.

I have never seen a police car equipped with a 4v motor, unless it was a show car that someone hopped up. The police interceptor has a stock 2v motor in it.

You will also think what transmission you will use with the motor, and your choice will probably end up being a 4r70w, with alot of wiring to do to make it work.

An interesting swap you have on your hands, but not the cheapest one to do.

You could do a built 302/351 for less money than you can swap the 4v 4.6.

Rebuild the 351, more torque, less $$$ overall, and there is no replacement for displacement, especially in a heavy vehicle. And, I agree, the police Crown Vics all had 2v 4.6's, so double check what you think you have before you decide on a swap.

the post about the new 4v intakes from ford are conventional 4 bbl intakes designed for the 4.6 mod motor. being a little older i tend to refer to carb intakes as 2v and 4v. my post form above is about a 4 bbl intake that is designed to fit a 4.6 along with the distributor retrofit kit that allows a traditional coil that does not need a computer processor. the 4v refer was not a cam reference, but a carb ref. home this helps.

I would rebuild the 351 to a 400 with some mild mods, you will have torque on tap!
