hello, I was digging thru my old ford parts pile and came across a camshaft for a FE engine. my question is what was it out of? IE: 352 360 390 and so on... it doesn't have any numbers or letter combos that I am used to seeing near the last journal, just FOMOCO (printed/casted) not in coursive casted into it. and it has two bumps on each side out closer to the bearing surface. no stripes of color anywhere and no other numbers that I can see.

the reason I ask this is somewhere in that pile of old cams is a 390GT/428 cam and I cant remember wich one it is. I would like to use it in my truck if I can identefy it.

 

You could mic the lobes to see what the lift is. I've done this several times to ID factory cams.

 

yeah, I spent most of the afternoon looking for my mic, it wasnt put back where it belongs... my fault. well there is a few more to dig thru maybe I'll recognize it, some are taged. this one looks to be like a 390 2bbl cam... but its hard as hell to tell without measuring. thanks anyways.

 

I use a dial caliper to mic mine. Works really well for this. Measure the high side and the low side then subtract for the difference. According to my books the GT cam was colored light blue on both sides of the # 3 journal.
