clunk on startup

clunk on startup

i was wondeing if anyone an help me out, i am a new diesel owner and everything is great, i love the truck. my question is, 99% of the time when i start the truck up and after about or anytime up to a minute running, there is a noticeable clunk that happens. you can actually feel it, it feels as if it is pretty much under your feet. i dont know if it is the tranfer case moving into position or something in the transmission or what. but the truck runs great. just not sure it that clunk should be there or what.

any suggestions?? my truck is a 2002 F350 Etx Cab Longbox

It is some sort of flapper that goes along with the heating and A/C system shutting and/or opening, that is what it was explained to me as, cause mine does it as well.

That's what it is. Some kind of vacuum actuated door. Try starting your truck with the AC & Heating switch in the off position for the next several starts and you shouldn't hear the clunk.

darrelm5 hit it right on the nail head. Mine did the same thing. Nothing to worry about at all. As darrellm5 said, it wont do it if you turn off your a.c./ defrost. Not to worry man!
