these guys are right. in terms of restoration NOS means new old stock. the term is missused way too often though. new old stock means the part is made by the original manufacturer for that specific application. it is the same part as used on the assembly line. if the part is made by a different manufacturer or even by the same manufacturer but has been changed (ford does that with carbs, they make a replacement that will fit several models) then it is NORS which is new old replacement stock. most parts on ebay that are advertised as NOS are actually NORS. these terms have actually been around since hemmings motor news had to find a way to abbreviate ads. i am actually going to suggest that hemmings actually invented the terms back in the 1970's and if you look in their books, they do have a glossary of terms and these are there. hawkrod
