As a former Ford tech, I've got to disagree. Treating it "right" will not guarantee you a 280K engine that has no trouble. It's true that some people will go 300K without having problems with their 4.0 SOHC engine. I also used to date a girl whose dad drove a Yugo 150K miles without a lick of trouble. (True story) Just because HE didn't have any problems with his Yugo does not make the Yugo the most reliable car in the world.
First, the 4.0 SOHC had teething pains when new. Okay, so do a lot of other engines. But the effort that it takes to fix the rear timing chain just makes me avoid any Ford car (or truck) that has this engine.
I really am glad that your engine has been reliable. I could also have you talk to many more who have not had a reliable 4.0 SOHC.
