It's a bit of work to get it installed, but well worth the effort. Be sure to measure 7 or 8 times before cutting the flange off the cat. It looks weird, but you do have to cut it on the angle... you'll see what I'm talking about. [link:www.candle-creator.com/nomo/f350/banks/banks.html|My install page] doesn't have many tips, but you don't really need any because the instructions are pretty good.Eric-
The Ottomind, IMO, is too pricy for what it gives you. Yeah, you can run 87 octane, but the power increase is pretty lame vs that of a Superchp or Diablo. Plus, Superchip & Diablo modify the tranny shift points whereas Banks makes a separate device (Transcommand) for that.
No Mo's explanation of the chip issue is right on.I have a manual trans.so the Trans.Command doesn't apply in my case. The price was $1435.00 plus freight.I was turned on to this place from a previous post of NoMo's I believe.I also priced it at Camping World and Banks themselves and they both were roughly $200.00 more.It isn't cheap but the system is a complete and quality product.
NoMo,
Thanks for the tips and I'll check out your install.
I noticed in the instructions last night about cutting the pipe.8in from the rear of the flange and at the same angle as the pipe.I installed the Banks on my 96 (5yrs.ago)the 02 looks as if it may be a bit easier to install.I'm going to try and get my cousin to help me since he helped last time.
Yeti,
Thanks, and will do.If the V-10 responds as well as the 460 I'll be pleased.
Kirk,
I don't want to make anyone jealous.I'm a bit excited and had to vent.My galfriend, bless her heart, just doesn't understand. So there's not much use wasting my breath and boring her
.Also, beware! If you don't want to be tempted do not look at the factory Y pipe and compare it to a good one,and not necessarily a Banks either.
Thanks for your interest!
Thanks for the good info. I agree, the price for the power pack is a bit salty, but it sounds like you get what you pay for. The thing that is making me consider the ottomind is the fact that it is made by the same company, and by the sounds of it, is designed to work well with the power pack. It makes me wonder if the performance gains that other chip manufacturers claim really hold true when combined with the power pack. Either that, or Gale Banks just did a helluva marketing job with that cool full-color flyer that I got in the mail!

Th supplied o2 sensor extension lead has a plug that is different than mine so I have to call Banks and have them send a new one.Ford must have changed the plug type at one time. It's close, but not the same.
A word to the wise..If anyone decides to do a Banks PP install have someone help you with the project.I speak from experience.I had help installing the passengers side header and unfortunately I did the rest of the install alone.
It's very time consuming making sure everything is corect and in alignment without any help. When I get the sensor lead I'll comment about my seat of the pants HP gain.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
My V-10 always seemed torquey but felt, shall I say, asthmatic. It felt stopped up and would not pull the rpms.easily.This truck is heavy and didn't feel as strong as my 96,460,with a Power Pack.I'm happy to say that it now will give the old big block a run for it's money. After I first installed it and drove the truck it didn't feel any stronger. After about 45 min.of drive time it was running like a champ.I guess the computer had to adapt to the exhaust. It has a bit more tone than I expected and is a wee bit loud for my taste but the HP gains justify the extra decibles. One problem that I have noticed is my gas mileage seems to have dropped and my foot has a tendency drop!
Banks stuff isn't cheap but IMO it delivers performance without causing any durability problems.
BTW,if any one decides to install a Banks Power Pack it helps to have a 10mm Gear Wrench to run some of the header bolts down snug and then tighten with a regular wrench.I also used two clamps where the muffler slips on to the converter.
