Question 7.3 cutsoff while driving.starts&dies agin

1999 f350 cuts off while driving..will restart go 100 ft to 1 mile cut off again...check engine lite comes on each time.. will restart 9 out 10 times 1st try then wont start for 5 to 10 trys..action taken .1.replace fuel filter...2.replace fuel pump on rail $400....this made tk run longer between shutdowns.but did not fix...check engine lite seems to be telling me no feul between f filter and injector?????the o ring (about 5 ins) on the fuel filter had come off possiblty allowing trash to injectors(when engine is running it run great 90 +)fuel pump (electric) on rail runs with ign on cuts off 30 sec or so.....start engine ele pump run cont. never cuts off..............connected volt meter to rail pump while driving 12 volts on pump constantly....even when engine dies still 12 volts........sometimes engine will restart (as it is still rotating) by pressing throttle

Perhaps your problem with your PSD could be the Cam Position Sensor? From the couple of years I have been surfing this website, the CPS seems to be the Achilles Heel of the PSD.

I love my PSD.

Go to your local International dealer and get one. 15 minute job. Even if it's not the problem, you'll have spare for this terrible part.

Yup, mine did the same thing about a year ago and that was the problem. Easy fix. Just make sure you use a 10mm box end wrench and BenRosey is right, get it from International, they are much cheaper than Ford for the same part. Several guys keep an extra in their glove box, it is a common problem. Good luck.

This sounds like the problem I have been having with my truck. I just got it back from Ford today and the put on a heater that uses the hot coolant from the engine to warm the fuel returning back to the tank. They say the pump gets plugged with ice from moisture from the tank. The pump gets warm from running and attracts moisture that turns to ice and plugs the line.

1-13-2004 thanks you were right on the mark..truck is up and running. But I had to see it to believe it. For the CPS to give these problems 1) shut down while driving 2) cough spit and sputter 3)shut down then start right back up 4)shut down and not start for 10 or 15 min 5) act as if starving for fuel 6)act like trash and or water in fuel 7) act like fuel pump bad 8)act like injector pump bad 9) it would even shut down at 55 mph and restart after coasting down to 35 mph. AND ANY AND ALL OF THESE IN ANY ORDER OR COMBO..THANKS AGAIN...AS WILLIE WOULD SAY I'M ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Ok, what is the international part number for the CPS. My 2002 is doing the same thing. The dealer says that without a code they can't do anything unless it does it while they are driving it. This is on my 2002 PSD.
BTW What does it cost?
Thanks

Does anyone know the part # for the International cps? They can't seem to find it at the dealer by my house. Thanks
