I recently noticed my 2000 Expl. Sport 4.0L OHV has an odd sound after starting up. The sound is kinda like a chain rattling coming from somewhere towards the front and maybe underneath the vehicle. The noise is only present while in drive or reverse and goes away after the engine has warmed up. Anybody know what this could be Id like as much info as possible before it either gets worse or before I take it to a shop. Thanks guys.
have been doing my own oil changes the last 4 times or so never noticed anythign in there just changhed oil yesterday and nothing. Put Fram xtra guard oil filter on with Mobil 1 synthetic oil. Exp has 43000 or so on it. I thought the cam chain tensioner and guides were only probs with the sohc models?
had the same problem the dealer had a update for that part and they fixed it at no charge. I have a 2000 X. need to see the dealer there is a recall on the drivers seat a bolt has to be replace and the cable for the crusecontroll.
The OHV engines don't have the cam tensioner problems, only the SOHC engines have that problem. I've heard from people on the Explorer Forum that it was just a design flaw and will not cause any damage to your engine. They have to live with the noise but it's nothing major.
Well its going to the shop wed, Im hoping its nothing but Ive never noticed it before. I also just recently changed out the flowmaster exhaust so theres quite alot of stuff im just now hearing
