Limited-slip options??

I have a 98 4x2 with a open rear end. I am thinking of installing a " limited slip" to give me some traction. (Basic winter driving)
What are your views on the options that are available??
Powertrax
Trac Lock
Detroit E-Z locker
Auborn
Eaton
Any pro's or cons would be helpful.
Thanks in advance
Don

Arbs make a good locker, i would go with one of those. What are you looking at as a price range? ideally you would have a selectable locker.

The Torsen or the Detroit Tru-Trac are probably the best choices for winter driving. They don't create any strange handling in limited traction situations and do not have any clutches to wear out. They are not limited-slips or lockers, they are torque proportioning diffs which send the majority of the torque to the wheel that has the most traction

Thanks for the responses. I think i'll look more into the Detroit Truetrak. It seems what I am looking for.

I have to vote for the Auburn unit. It's a good heavy duty clutch type setup . The GM type governor lock setups work well enough, But the Auburn unit won't kick out on you when you don't want it to. Talk to some mustang fanactics about those factory ford track lock set ups. They will start off spinning both wheels, But after a few feet , they kick back into single traction. Thats why most mustang fans choose the Auburn unit to replace their factory track-loc.

I've got an Auburn in my Mustang and for a performance rear, it's fine. When I have to replace it, which I will eventually because they wear out and cannot be rebuilt, I'm going to go to either a Tru-Trac or a Torsen. I don't drag race, I autocross and the torque-proportioning rears have been shown to be the way to go for that purpose.

But the original question was not about performance, it was about snow driving and an Auburn or any other limited slip which doesn't unlock readily can be a problem in the snow. The torque proportioning units are the choice of rallye drivers everywhere because they don't get squirrelly under low or mixed traction conditions.
