manual to power mirrors

How involved is it to fit power/heated or just power to mirrors to SD that has standard manual mirrors? Said truck is the XLT, just the lower end with minimal options. Is the chassis prewired for options or would you have to add the entire harness. is it possible to just add the mirrors and leave the connections stubbed through into the cab. Hating to sound like a three year old with so many questions at once, but I'm sure you guys will have all the answers. Thanks

I don't know about pre-wired as far as if the wires are in the door.

But even if they were, how would you control them?

You are probalby gonna have to pull the door panel to have a looksee for yerself. But the question remains...How are you gonna control them?

Does seem like a lot of work. Does your truck have multiple users? Or are you more interested in the heating feature?

manual to power mirrors

Hey monsta, it's an honor to have a reply from the mastermind. I'm the only user of the truck, it's just that all the mirrors that I see for sale or auction are power. I wasn't sure if Ford would have the wisdom to have one wiring system installed in the cab and add the options as ordered, or they would put in different harnesses for different option packages. As far as controlling them, if the cab IS prewired, I'm sure I could find another power window/ mirror control assembly from my friendly neighborhood salvage yard. (I'm sure somebody has wrecked 1 or 2 of them). But on the likely chance that the cab ISN'T prewired, will the power mirrors stillbe able to be adjusted manually or is it a lost cause?

MAN! Your giving these guys WAY too much ammo against me!

Okay, now you lost me . Is there something wrong with your present mirrors?

Why would you get new mirrors that are powered, then adjust them manually? Unless...you want the heating feature? You can adjust them manually...it sounds like hell when you do it. Are you looking to going from the elephant ear (aero "sport" style) to the Trailer Tow mirrors?

Exactly, I would love to have trailer towing mirrors, I'm relatively stuck (wife won't let me spend the $$$) with the stock mirrors, unless I can find them cheaper than new. But all I can find are power mirrors. Sorry I didn't specify that before. I guess I'm gonna have to dig into the door aren't I????

If your any good at wiring up a home made wire harness you could just use the control out of any car.
