Question Hi-mount brake light

Is there a trick to get the hi-mount brake light out of the cab? The light is not working. I removed the 2 screws which hold it to the cab, but I can only pull the light out about 3/4 inch. I am afraid to pull too hard and break it.

I have tried shifting the light left and right, but to no avail. I read on another forum that on some post 90"s model vehicles that a burned out hi-mount light can cause the cruise not work. The cruise on my truck is not working. Anybody had this experience?
Thanks,
Clava
