Question Spark plugs for 5.4L

Has anyone tried the Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs in the 5.4L engine. I have a 1999 Expedition 4X4 with 89,000 miles and was looking to change the plugs. I am new to the forum and am looking for good advice.

First, welcome to FTE!!!!!

For the best results, replace your plugs with Motorcraft platinums!! With the OEM plugs, you know for sure you will be
getting the correct heat range plugs. I had bad results with Bosch
plugs in my Ranger, but Bosch plugs run great in my gasoline Mercedes......

Stick with Motorcraft Platinum, I've read many, many posts with folks encountering problems after installing other brands (no matter how expensive).

Have fun with the install...

I've only tried them twice...And both time the car ran worse when I was done. One was an Explorer that the owner insisted on putting them in, the other was an Expy with the owner wanting them in.....So I put them in, called the owner and had them come and drive the vehicle to confirm the bad results, and then put OEM Motorcraft plugs in and let them roll...My Expy will only get Motorcraft Platinums...

Use the Motocraft factory spec plugs. A neighbor put the Bosch in his F-150 and it misfired until he put the Motorcraft in. After having done two spark plug replacement jobs instead of just one, he was not a happy camper. One every 120K miles is enough!

I agree with everyone else, use motorcraft, cause you don't want to get stuck doing plugs twice. Especially not on the 5.4

I used the Autoilte Double Platnium plugs and they run fine in my Expy. I use them in all my vehicles (Lincoln MarkVIII, and Mercedes 220C) and they work just as good if not better than OEM.

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like I better get the Motorcraft plugs. They are much cheaper too.

THANKS!

How I find the sparkplugs in my 2001 expedition 5.4L? Are they hidden under a cover?

Spark Plugs

Look in the "TECH ARTICLE" section. There is a good description of where the spark plugs are and how to change them.
good luck.

Skyjack,
Is there anything indicating that you need to change your plugs at only 45k? They are rated to last approx 100k miles. I've read that many like to tackle this PITA job (I know, just changed mine two weeks ago !) around 70-80k miles. Mine was changed after 110k miles, and they were pretty much shot. I noticed pinging and my gas mileage got worse if you could believe it. I personally would wait to at least 60k but that's my opinion. You might want to look into cleaning your MAF sensor. You can do a search on that for directions, (it's easy).
Good luck,
Phil
