Hey, I got my paperwork back from the Ford Customer service where they decoded my VIN and data plate for me. I t says that my truck is a flareside.... does that mean stepside?
Mine has a short bed on it now and I was/am confused.
I know it may be a silly question to some, but I don't know what the flareside means.
Wow! So, my bed has been changed. I have always thought that the short bed on mine looked a little "off", I think the 2nd photo in my gallery would clarify that. Thanks. I learn more about my truck every day.
Didn't we have this "stepside/flareside" conversation a couple weeks ago? You salty Ford guys must have been cursing me when I logged on as 1968stepside. Well, at least I know now it's a flareside, right?
Anyway, I am waiting for my printout from Ford too! Can't wait to see it. I would have never found that website without this one!
SFC DAVIS, If you are interested, the stepside/flareside question was answered in the "Any other Stepsides out there" thread. The www.bumpsides.com site has a lot of cool info on there including the original sales brochures for the 67-72 trucks.

1968stepside... who knew huh? I always referred to them as stepsides. Had I have known that was a GM term I surely wouldn't have used it. Thanks for the info on bumpsides as well as the other thread info.
SFCDAVIS, It makes sense that you truck would have been a flareside, most of the forrest service pickups tended to be back then as were many other government agencies. They were put out for bids and the narrow beds cost less than the wide ones.
idealtrucks- here it is, just fill out the form and in a couple weeks you'll get a nice Ford Motor Company letterhead with all your truck information.
In the remarks section I put all my data plate info there and it was deciphered for me. Nice item to put with your truck or car (see you have a mustang too) paperwork.
willowbilly3- Yep. With that police type alley light on the drivers side mounted on there and that huge winch bumper is what led me to believe that. Also, the interior is chrome yellow. The paprerwork from Ford says that the exteroir paint was black. There wasn't a code on my data plate for color, but apparently the DSO tells them it was black.
