'96 F-250 Powerstroke: Opinions?

My dad is looking for a 4WD (new cabin) and I've been trying to convert him to the Religion Of Diesel for a while. Found a truck for sale as follows:

'96 F-250, 4WD, Auto, Extended Cab, 8' bed
+-50k miles, wants $22k.

Opinions? Problems with that year? How about the price?

Thanks
RY

Tha's way too much for a 7 year old truck. Almost twice what it's probably worth.

Go over to www.edmunds.com or Kelly Blue Book, www.kbb.com enter the details and see what its book value is. Edmunds has it at around $11,000, Kelly figures it at around $13,000, retail price, private party sale.

When the 3-year lease is up on my '02, I can buy it for around $21,000 per the contract. That would be for a 3 year old 2002. Asking the same for a 7 year old 1996 isn't reasonable.

96's are a good truck. Two recalls, tire pressure and air filter unit. Price for the truck is way too high. There are other threads on this site that will advise what to look for when your in the market to buy.

The 96 is a nice truck I got mine with only a few 1000's more miles than the one you saw. I paid $13,000 for mine from a ford dealer. This is a nice truck it didn't have scatch on it when I got it and int is like factory new. Mine starts at 8 deg F without being plugged in and gets 15-16 mpg combined. I have a Banks Power Pack on my truck and it gets along like a sports car that can tow 10,000 + LBS. I sold a 83 460 CID 3/4 ton 4spd to get the PSD and have never looked back. Take good care of it and it will take care of you.

I have a 95 f250 4x4 with almost 200k miles. It still runs like
new and does not leak a drop of oil. Cant go wrong with a ford powerstroke. good luck!

My '96 isn't an x-cab and has 175K on it but I only paid $5k and it runs like a champ. Yes, it was a pretty good deal but they are out there.
