Broke Sliding Window
The one that slides, its right by the rear heater controls.
Has anyone replaced one of these before?
Are there any tricks to it?
We had some friends over last night and one of the kids brought a Pellet Gun, and one of my kids shot the window out of another friends Aerostar
I know where one is at a junk yard, I'm going to get it later today, just like any quick info that anyone can give to replacing it.
Thanks, and i'll keep ya posted
You'll have to remove or at least unscrew and pull back the driver side interior panel. That is one huge beast & removing it completely requires unscrewing the seatbelt anchor screws - you'll need the appropriate Torx bit.
There are a number of nuts around the perimeter of the window that hold the window assembly to the sheet metal. Remove them and the window should pull away if the gasket will let it. Since I didn't remove the window, I didn't get to experiment with the gasket/seal.
You may be able to replace just the slider out of the window assembly, but it's pobably just as much work as swapping out the assembly.
Working on the nuts with the panel pulled back will be awkward. I suggest you hold it while the kid named Mudd gets his/her small hands in there with the ratchet.
Good luck & remember that you, too, were a kid once...
Cheers,
Eric
i have an 89 aero, and Ford used butyl rubber caulking to form the gasket around the window. it will be easier to do this on a hot sunny day (wish it was summer now), since the heat softens the butyl rubber. you will need to get your hands on some butyl rubber caulking to reseal the new window assy. the r&R is as eehoepp said.
as for sliding just the window piece out. i have tried it... could not get it out at all. i've removed all the felt and parts around the sliding track but it just wouldn't slide out (similar removal process as casement windows of your home). less someone has already done it... i wish i had posted and asked earlier. now i have a slight leak from the "new" window assy... no matter how much caulking i used, it still leaks under pressure wash (it never leaked before the r&r process).
And believe it or not I found a '93 window, and the bolts were not in the same place as the '95 that I was replacing!!!
Some holes lined up, but I had to drill about 4 new holes :-(
