I've been experiencing some brake pulse/shudder recently and was wondering if someone could shed some light?
What's happening is, when applying the brakes the truck seems to shudder a bit and the pedal pulses lightly. The braking ability seems diminished also.It does track straight during braking.I had metallic pads put on in May 2003,along with refacing the rotors,
cleaning and repacking the bearings. This was done about 11k ago. Before yanking everythingI'd figure I'd get some input.
Yep, the rotors are warped, you could get them turned, but like he said, your probably better off to get some new ones. I had a heck of a time trying to get my rotors off to get them turned, if anyone has any detailed instructions, or some pictures on how to get them off it would help!
Do a search in this forum for BALL JOINTS. I used the instructions that were posted and they were dead on. Someone posted a link for instructions and pictures on how to remove the ball joints. Just stop when you get the rotors off. I replaced them about 2 months ago......only took about 45 minutes each side.
my breaks were doing the same thing so i took off the wheel only to find i had broken the edges off the inside of my left rotor. i have no idea how i manged that
heres one for ya most old ford trucks dont like metallics dont know why could never figure it out but some vehicals can stop on a dime with the cheap pads and take 30 secs to go from 30 to 0 with metallic odd stuff but its a fact.
I had this on my 86 and it was the rear drums. The brake shop said the rotors up front were nice and straight but the rear drums were messed up. Rather than turn them, I had new drums installed when they did the brakes all around, and it cleared up, but lately I'm getting the problem again.
