Now that winter is here, I can finally have someone work on the A/C. My question is, if major repairs are going to be needed to refurb the a/c should I invest in one of the vintage air products and use my york compressor for trail air. Or should I just bite the bullet and fix the factory a/c with the new upgrades? I am looking at cost but reliability is probably more important and worth spending some change on.
The last time a shop worked on it they sd all the insulation around blower was shot and hanging down-and it never really blew cold enough. I am concerned that a redo of the factory system isn't going to be as good as an aftermarket even when done correctly.(read into this--I am fat and I like it cold)
Thanks in advance

Putting in two systems may be a mess. If you need AC it is probably best to fix the existing system and upgrade to R134a. The insulation around the box can be replaced.
It only cost me $500 to upgrade to the new freon with a new compressor and hoses and etc. This was done in the off season and I considered it a bargain. Much smoother and efficient. You could take the box off and refurbish it yourself before having the conversion done.
I have a small electric compressor for my airbags. It works great for airing up tires and such but not for high volume.
