1960 Ford truck

I can understand the frustration of owning a rare beauty as the 57-60 ford truck. For one not a lot a people reproduce parts as other ford trucks. I have owned my 1960 Ford Stepside for 26 years. So i know whats its like looking for parts. I have completly restored mine for the 100th time, but this time more care was put into like, sliding back window, One piece glass kit, (CAn give you hints how to do this without spending a lot of money), disk brakes on the fron end. Plus i removed the rain vent around the top of the truck. I remove the stock taillights and added a new clean look. Also i had my 292 automatic rebuilt. Right now it primed and ready to paint. Plus i chromed everywhere i could. So Yes its a labor of love. As a owner of one of these classics you will always work on them because there is a lot ways to make it you. So don't give up. I spend a lot of time at the wrecking yard.

As for sound if you have a am-fm tape tape just get an adapter for a portable CD and play your cd's and you old tape for a fraction of the cost.

Plus i have pictures if you want them.

Yes, a pain in the neck, tutu, and everywhere else, but it's obviously worth the effort or so many of us would not put up with it. I've had my own pain in the neck since about 1961 when I started this hobby and personally would not be without it! Some pain is good. Take two aspirin and call me in the morning!...

You know guys, since there are quite a few of us, maybe some of us should write some letters to parts manufactors about making some more 1957-60 parts. I mean maybe they don't realize we're out here. Besides, everybody and there brother makes 53-56 parts, if somebody would actually make some 57-60 they would sure as hell get alot of business. -4speed

Skates,

You better be posting some pictures. Yes I want tips, drawings, schematics, pictures and video on how to do a one piece glass door conversion.

4Spd,

Parts are coming. I remember when the cab corners were not available. The more of us there are the more parts are being made. Calling and asking is a good idea. Someone should compile a list of manufactures and the products they make but not for the 57 - 60. Those guys are our targets. They know how to makw what we want. They just need to be sure they can make a profit.

Blown 312 eh DARKMAN? would that be the Y block 312? sounds cool. I got a 312-Y sittin in the back yard out of our '56 Victoria. It got swapped out for a 302 out of a Mustang Mach 1

Interesting question, considering this is a Ford truck enthusiasts forum comprised of leterally THOUSANDS of Ford fanatics! But we understand it's a rhetorical question and we also share your grief from time to time. We've all been there, done that!

Best anecdote I've found? Post a thread specifying a problem and let the folks here reply. Nine times out of ten getting new insight and suggestions sheds new light on a frustrating problem. And, there are some exceptionally knowledgeable people here. So, hang in there and don't be shy about firing questions or searching past threads for answers BEFORE you get to the boiling point of frustration with something.

And for the record.... Yes, I'm a Ford lover!

Hang in there...

Yep it's a Y.

That is a picture that I am modeling mine off of. It is a 57 Ford 312 with the McCuloch blower.

You should consider putting the 312 back in. They can make serious horsepower.

I did not read the reply about the tips on my one piece glass conversion. But here is what i did. I gutted the entire window assembly, then i made a template from cardboard to make sure the measurement was correct, then i went to tap plastics and had them cut the pattern from the cardboard. It was a perfect fit. I used the window assemby just to raise the window up and down. It was'nt perfect but it gave me the look i wanted.

I finally ordered the kit which has a long window channel. Well after following all the direction carefully the glass that came with the kit was too big. Just would not clear the sides even after some cutting. So i'm stuck with 2 window glasses. I tried finding someone who cuts glass with no luck in the bay area, so i had 2 more pieces of plexigalss cut and installed them into the window channels and they work perfect.

I believe a Canadian '58 Mercury M-100 counts.
Oh, trust me, there are Tons of Frustrations involved.
Especially when one gets taken to the Cleaners by one of the Few suppliers of parts & services for our years of truck.
