Can i use shocks meant for a lifted truck on a stock truck ?

So i have to replace the shocks on my 04 f350 SD 6.0 but i want to get a lift kit once i have the money. So i was wondering if it's possible to run shocks like the FOX shocks with remote resevoirs instead of stock shocks, that way i won't have to get new shocks again when i get a lift kit. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Frits

NO!!

Here is the problem with using a shock designed for a lifted truck on a stock truck. The stroke is too long. With the suspension at rest, the shock would be at close to full compression. If you bottom out the suspension, the piston would go right through the top of the body. I would wait till you get the kit.

Not advised, even if they will fit. First, the body of the shock is necessarily longer, so your suspension compression travel may be limited by the fully compressed shock length. Second, you will wear the shock in a certain stroke range, and then when you lift the truck it will then work another range on the shock. Not really a problem, but has been known to result in leaks.

This would probably work fine if you were just talking about a leveling kit. But not if the lift will be 4" or more.

not to mention the valve body inside wont be sitting were its supposed to be at rest..

so your damping circuits will never be working right...the shock will always react like its further compressed then the truck truely is..
