I bought a chop saw at HD. It was a Rigid brand and carries a LIFETIME warranty. It was 20% off this weekend and total was $143. I have been cutting angle and box tubing with 3/16" wall thickness. I am very happy with it so far. My current project is a cab roller for my 57 F100. Bought the casters earlier today and should have it welded up tomorrow.
Dumb question....Is there a difference between a woodworking chop saw and a metal working saw (besides the blade)? I've got a 10 inch compound miter saw with a wood blade in it. To use it for metal, would I just have to switch to a metal cutting wheel?
The saw are constructed differently. The wood one would not last long doing metal work. The rpm is wrong too. The metal saw has a lot more power at a lower RPM.
I have used my wood saw to cut aluminum tubing etc with a carbide blade. The blade cuts aluminum well but it will not work well for wood afterward. To cut ferrous metals etc you will need an abrasive cutoff saw called a "hotsaw" that is built for the task.

Thanks for the info....that's why I asked instead of ruining my good wood saw....
Being in the construction game, I've used many different chopsaws. The only one that seems to hold up to heavy use is the Mikita. I've seen them cut whole bundles of rebar and not even flinch. Others wear out about half way thru the bundle.
Glad to hear that Fonefiddy. Just bought one to supplement the demo saw (it's not always around, nice to have the saw in the shop vs. the loud Partner K700 plus fewer blade changes).
At the same time, ordered the dual sliding compound mitre from Makita.. can't wait for that to come it, and start hacking a few boards up....
