98 f150 5 speed clutch SLAVE CYLINDER- where???

hello, I'm having tranny problems. Sometimes it is hard to shift gears in truck without double clutching. Someone suggested 'cleaning' slave cylinder shaft?!?! Ok, where is slave cylinder located and how do I go about cleaning it? Thnx IN ADVANCE

They might have meant bleeding the slave cylinder - I don't think a 98 would have a dirty input shaft unless you have submerged it while off-roading. The slave cylinder for your five speed is inside the transmission - it is wrapped around the input shaft. Under your truck, you will find a hydraulic line going into the driver's side of the transmission. There is a bleed nipple near the hydraulic line that will let you bleed any air from the system. It's just like bleeding brakes. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder, and have someone help pump up the clutch pedal. Good luck!!

Bleeding it may help. The fluid can and will go bad with age. A good bleeding may delay replacement.

Exclamation

i just bought a 95 f150 the other day and sort of had the same problem but it only appeared 2 times before i decided to do something about it. when i would go to get in the truck when it had been cold or sitting a couple of hours it acted like the clutch was stuck, pedal would go down but not disingate the clutch, until i worked it back and forth a could of times.. So i ask one of my friends at work about it and he said that i probaly had some moisture in the fluid so i gravity bled all the old fluid out and it seems to have done the job. I'd not seen this problem in any of my other 2 f150's one of which i just put a clutch in but the others an auto. my friend said if the fluid was dark then thats prob what it is
