I have been playing with stroker 385`s for some time now in my race trucks and would like to find out more about the fuel injection motors. I currently have a 97 f-250 4x4 hd converted with a dana 60 front, and a 94 f-350 4x4. Both trucks are basicly identical 3.55`s, speed density, 33 inch tires. bith have right around 100k miles. But the 97 will just walk all over the 94 and gets much better mileage. Like 14 to 16 while the 94 is lucky to get 10 . Does anyone know of any drastic changes of these motors? They have the same casting numbers on the heads? So I am assuming they have the same exhaust port. the 460 in the 94 has always been serviced regularly and is very clean inside, good compression.. I dont know. I would surely think it would get better mileage than 9 mpg... For a empty truck. any help would be appreciated. Also the e40d shifts different in the 94 than the 97? are these programed differently?

 

Mass air does a better job at metering Air-Fuel mixture but I wouldnt think it would be that much more. The two motors are identical, but the transmission that the 97 has is better built than the pre 95's. I have a 93 with a 5 speed. The best gas mileage I have had was on a steady hwy trip at 65-70mph was 13.8 MPG. I average about 11-12 mpg with a mix of towing in the summer.
