Just put a clutch in my 85 Bronco II 2.8L, now when I went to buy tranny fluid for the 5 speed manual, I was told Gear Oil from one parts store and ATF Automatic fluid from another. I'm having a hard time figuring out which one to use. And if I put the wrong lube in it will it destroy the tranny?
Come on now I can't believe there's know one out there with the knowlege I need for my Gear Oil or ATF Thread. I guess i'll just keep the ATF I put in it, seems to be fine so far! Maybe I'll check out the Ranger Station I've seen a few people talk about on this site!
according to my chilton manual the tranny takes 80w gear lube. The transfer case takes ATF. thats what im running in my transmission and t-case of the same year and it seems to do fine. Its the newer mazda 5 speeds that take the ATF.
I bet that Bronco II has the M5OD, unless it has been changed at some point with a ZF. I would classify the Bronco II as a light duty truck, basicly a ranger with a topper.
Light duty your not joking. I was pulled over recently here in Phx and was givin a ticket for no mud flaps. I went to court and won, because my Bronco II is registered through the DMV as a STATION WAGON! No joking, on my title it list body style as a station wagon, and as we all know station wagons don't need mud flaps!!! So this brings up the question , are all Bronco IIs listed this way or could it be the part of country I live in. But if your ever pulled over for no mud flaps try the Station Wagon excuse it worked for me!
Here in Arizona mud flaps are required on vehicles with the rear bumper above a certain height. My point was generally station wagons don't get near that height!
