So I was reading a thread on the general conversation forum and I need to know something about my fuel pump.
Is it supposed to make noise? When I turn the key I can hear the pump turn on..."nehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
NHHOTTIE said that she knew her pump was giong out because it had been whining. Is this the whining to which she may be referring? Is my pump going out? if so, this would be a good time to know...the wifey is going out of town to give me some time to fix some things on my truck. (stuck hub, headlights, maintenance). I could try to work it in.
Generally from what I've seen and ran into electric fuel pumps are supose to be pretty quiet. I've had vehicles that you could hear the relay click to bring them on but the pump was quiet. Others you could hear the pump running.
As far as "is the pump going bad since it's whining?" Well was it quiet before? If so you might have a problem. If it's not cutting out then is it worth dropping the tank?
Back in college I put a new intank pump in my 94 tempo, whined since the first hit of the key. Friend of mine bought it and it's still whining today, 5 yrs later.
Not sure about later-model bronco's, but my '89 had an external pump on the inside of the frame just under the drivers door. I was able to hear both the relay and the pump (until the system was pressurized that is) then the pump shut off until the truck was actually started. Not sure how bad of a "whine" yours is making, but it will make some noise. Hope this helps a little.
Well. I bought my Bronco a couple of years ago, and it always had a slight whining sound. But sometime areound August, the sound started to get louder. I made sure the tank was full with good gas. But it still kept whining. After reading some of the threads here, it sounded like it might be going bad, and I wasn't going to take any chances, so I bought the replacement, and threw it in the back of the truck. It died two months later.
The new one sounds just like the old one did when I first bought it.
The sound might have many factors. Amount of gas in your tank, fuel filter, brand and quality of your fuel pump. I'm just guessing of course.
Good luck. And I hope your fuel pump doesn't die after you've read my post. Some say I'm bad luck.
Ive had the fuel pump go out before ,only indication i had was longer starts ------ with flowmasters i caint hear a thing though---except the SOUND OF FREEDOM----TR
well my 91 whines that i can hear. so does my wifes aerostar and all the other vehicles i have owned. i think if the whine is steady and healthy sounding it is a normal to hear a slight whine.
i have been experiencing a loud whine for some time now... thought it was comeing from brake booster it was soo loud...i finally took a closer look yesterday and found out that it was the FP on the Driver side rail...it was loose (missing a bolt on top) replaces bolt and it did get a little quieter...(not much)...this cant be normal... i am thinking it is due to crappy FP's... IT"S LOUD
