Hey guys,

Will this truck pull my Mach 1? New to pull about 5-5.5K. Just want to make sure I don't burn up the tranny or motor.

Have a class III hitch on it too.

Any of you tow with your 4.2s?

It depends on what transmission and axle ratio you have.
I own a 98'F150 w 4.2L/5speed/3.55 axle ratio, and without a doubt the weakest link in this drivetrain is the M5od 5speed tranny.
This truck has served me well, but once when I was pulling a friends camper with it, I realised right then and there that it was not something I'd want to do again. It had to weigh over 4000lbs
but I cant say for sure. You could smell the clutch burnin-though not real bad, but enough to make me worry about it a bit. Stopping the load took too much a toll on the whole truck as well.
I've also pulled many cars on tow dollies with this truck and it did those without a hickup.
With the stick I'd say keep your tow weight below 4000lbs for sure and prolly closer to 3000lbs to be safe, with the automatic you can probably go to a little better than 5000lbs with the 4.2L engine. Hope that helps.

Problem is my Mustang weighs 3500lbs and the trailer weighs just under 2000. This motor is supposed to have 202 HP and 254 Torque. The 5 spd tranny is the same tranny the V-8s have. Not sure what the 98 F-150 has.

I'm still concerned they sold me a vehicle that is questionable to do what I told them I wanted it to do.

I only tow my car a couple times a year on a 2,000 mile round trip. What do you think?
