Haunted Passenger Mirror (Moves on its own)

Hey,
I just posted about the ghost trailing me (see the backup sensors gone batty thread) and I happened to remember another weird occurrence that only happens 'sometimes.' Every once in a great while, when I hit the keyless entry 'unlock' button on my key fob, the passenger mirror will move on its own (it moves to the right and only to the right.) If I get in the Expy, I can use the mirror adjuster switch to power the mirror back into the left...and then it will stay. Incidentally, if I get in the expy and hit the "#1" position memory button, the mirror will not automatically move back in. Any ideas on what's going on there? Are the mirrors controlled with a wire, or are they remote controlled from the mirror adjustment switch? BTW, it's a 2001 EB Expy 4x4.

Thanks,
Farmlaw

I would highly recommend you get an exorcism performed immediately. Make sure you do not bring any pea soup home from the supermarket because it won't make it in the house. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

The mirrors are driven by wire. A sensor is likely at fault for both issues. Each sensor for remote and backup should be checked.

FWIW, I determined the cause of this anomaly today. I had forgotten that the memory seats/mirrors have 3 positions, 1, 2 and 3 (press 1 and 2). Using the keyless entry was causing the truck to move to the 3rd position...same as 1 and 2, but with the right mirror positioned out. Resetting position 3, and shutting off the 'auto reposition with keyless entry' setting was sufficient.

FYI my mirrors were acting funny from the start. They moved to the correct set possition with the key fobs but the actual adjuster had a mind of it's own. Up means left, right means up etc.

Ford changed both mirror motors, now it's fine.
