I am working on a non-ford product, But I'm sure some of the fords have the same design.
I hyper extended the hinges on a vehicle, and the door barely would shut. Now it won't open more than a few inches.
I can take the front fender off to get the door to open I'm sure.
But the hinges are glued on some way.
Anyone know how I can reglue new hinges back on?
Or should I get some 1/2 sheet metal screws or something and put them on with it somehow.
I don't really want to weld the hinges on, but if I have to, I guess I can. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Also, I've taken 2 years of Body repair in highschool, so I'm familiar with most terms and tools, so you don't have to explain it in "Dummy words" :P
Your hinges are not glued on they are welded on. If you were to sand the area down where the hinge body attaches to the pillar then you would see the outline of the factory spot welds. This type of replacement requires that the welds be drilled through the hinge, to but not through the post, and then the replacement hinge plug welded in place. On some models the replacement will be bolted in place but this depends on the model. If you purchase a replacement hinge from a dealer it will come with instructions for replacement. The "glue" you see around the hinge is a sealer used to prevent rust formation around the hinge.
Ok thanks. I knew I seen glue
But I can't get to it to see the plug welds
I looked as hard as I could but I didn't see any.
Thanks for the info. I feel more confident in replacing them now
