I have always preferred direct gauges in my vehicles. Even with the newer aftermarket gauges that fit the dash perfectly, I still like the direct ones. Here are the ones I am getting ready for the next phase of the build. I changed the voltage for a small tach, will replace the one currently on the column. New set up Current
I like an under dash set of gauges too. At an F-100 show last June in Clear Lake, Iowa I was looking in a cab of a 55 and the guy's gauges were installed all sorts of cockeyed. None of them were mounted straight up. To me it looked really weird. I asked the guy about it and hold told me it was an old stock car driver's trick. The gauges were rotated so that when everything is normal, the needles are pointing straight up. Makes it easy to see if something is a problem at just a glance.

Never would have thought of that, make a lot of since too. Thanks for sharing that.

It does! Its funny how something that looks so strange turns out to be helpful.
I also like your new, and old old gauge mounting panel. I do the same thing. Drill holes for indicator lights. I like to know at a glance if my electric radiator fan is running, so there is a hole for that and I want to install an ALT light. So one of these days I will drill on for that.

The light is for the CCP break master cylinder, did not under stand that the ground contact comes off the proportional value and the light is always hot but only comes on when the ground activates, that one wire thing lost me for a minute. I am leaning to make a bracket for the light when I change over. The VW gauge bracket maybe too nice to start drilling holes in it.
The other is a reverse light button. When I get the linkage right for my 3.03 transmission I am going to try and fabricate a bracket and reverse light switch at the transmission.
For the $15.00 I spent on the current bracket I did not mind drilling some holes.....
