I have a 1989 f250 with an 351w and it doesn’t like starting cold. I replaced the coolant temp sensor and the air idle control valve and it ran perfectly for a week. Now when I start it, the idle dumps and the engine stalls out. I replaced the egr unit (the metal piece that attaches to the tube) and it starts intermittently. When I was trying to start it, if I unplug the hose that attaches to the top of the egr, the truck started. If I attach it after it’s started, the idle gets choppy. I have engine codes 34 and 84. Any ideas?
Okay, perfect, I’ll get one of those. Do you know of a place to buy one? I checked autozone/o’rielly/napa and they don’t have any for my make and model truck
There is a little bit of suction when it’s idling/cold. Not a lot, but it’s there. How do I make it not do that?
You won't
That pulsating (what feels like vacuum is a normal signal from the EGRV) (EGR solenoid)
That solenoid has a cap on it covering a foam filter
The vacuum is constant at the solenoid, and it vents through the foam filter (the processor controls the solenoid) and regulates EGR flow
When the filter starts getting plugged, you have EGR flow at idle and that's trouble
Your hard start cold is not the EGR, no vacuum is present until the engine starts means the valve will be closed / should be closed
