Problems Starting
About a week ago, it was running fine. Since then, the vehicle hasn't been started. A few days ago, he tried to start it and the battery was dead. After charging the battery (about a year old), it still will not start.
He doesn't have a manual for this yet. I pulled the codes earlier today. They were 21 and 24. I don't remember what they are exactly. I believe one is the Engine Coolant Sesnor and the other is the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
The truck acts like it is going to start but won't. It sounds like it isn't getting enough fuel.
When first turning the key on, I hear something that sounds like the Fuel Pump for a couple seconds. The sound is coming from just below the drivers side seat, on the frame. There is something that is about 6-7 inches long and is a cylider. It is slightly wider than the fuel filter. This has a fuel line on each one with 2 electrical connections on the front. Is this the fuel pump?
I thought the pump as actually in the tank.
In the morning, I am going to change the fuel filter (about 2 years old). I just happen to have one laying around.
How is the easiest way to make sure this isn't a fuel problem?
Any suggestions where to go from here?
Thanks
Jody
It should be a speed density setup.
how did you pull your codes?
chim in guys, give her that site on how to pull the codes.
also, your truck has two pumps, one on the driver side frame rail(high pressure), and one in your tank(low pressure)
Well do me 1 favor before i get excited.
Crank it abotu 10 times, then smell the tail pipe and near the throttle body.
Do you smell a crap load of fresh gas?
If so im 99% sure its your CTS. Your TPS really should make it not start, if anything it would start and stall if to low, or start and run at 1000rpm+ if to high.
If you dont smell ANYTHING, then your gettin no fuel, prob pump.
Go under you car, drivers side frame rail and pull your fuel filter, and then blow it out, onto a table or something. If it really nasty that means it hasnt been changed in a while. Not good. Now with the fuel filter disconnected, (you'll need 2 ppl) turn the key to start. BUT! VERY quickly. When you turn the key to start you should hear you fuel pump come on. It is trying to meet the PSI that your FPR is setting. Now with it all disconnected the fuel pump (if working properly) will not shut off.
So 1 person turn key, 2nd person lay under car, away from fuel line, unless you want gas on you and listen for pump and watch from gas to be SHOOTING out of that line. If it shoots out GOOD! If not... Huston we have a problem.
Well good luck!
Adam
P.s.
You pulled the code correctly.

I have also changed the Fuel Filter. While the filter was off, we checked that the fuel pump was working. It sprayed as expected.
After changing the Fuel Filter and the CTS, it still will not start. There is spark going into the Distributer Cap. The Distributer cap and Roter were both changed this past summer.
Any other idea's?
With the Fuel Injection, how is the best way to use a starting fluid?
Thanks
