2005 f250 with 300,000 km on it.
I rarely post about this beauty as it's usually flawless.
Timing chain / phasers are a little bit loud. Nothing wild.
She's starting to get a little weak in her old age. When its warm it has a long crank before it starts. No CEL
Plugs and coils , fuel filter have 15,000 km on em.
I'm just wondering what my options are in the way of restoring any of its power. I've often thought about replacing the O2s just for fun.
200,000 miles the engine may just be getting tired. Might want to look at compression before you do anything else. O2 sensors may help. Might want to look at your fuel trims and see how far out you are.
Clean the mass air flow sensor.
Make sure the cats aren't falling apart inside plugging things up. Exhaust manifolds aren't leaking. All the basic stuff.
But at the end of the day it's a 5.4, they definitely aren't powerhouses...
The 5.4 is a decent powerplant, just not the most reliable. I'd recommend doing the timing chain, tensioners and phasers before they die. Also, at 200k miles I'd recommend replacing the oil pump with a Melling HO unit. The original pump was trash, and you're lucky it's lived this long IMO. I had a 2005 F150 W/5.4. 120k I had to replace the timing hardware, at 213k the oil pump let go and the engine locked up due to oil starvation. I bought a reman engine for it from Powertrain Products, had it installed and drove that truck another 100k until the frame rot got so bad I had to scrap it.
