1995 Ford F-150 xlt 2wd v8 302
I replaced the rear fuel pump assembly and tank, all new from RockAuto. Delphi Tech Support advised on the colors code for the wires to connect the pigtail. The connection was wrong and pop the 20Amp fuse under the hood.
The time I replaced the fuse and call tech support line, they were closed.
I found a video on YouTube that shown the right colors wires and the pump work fine, but later the rear pump would stop working. The pump was relaced again and now I have 2 problems.
!. When switching the selector for the fuel tanks, there is a very large delay on the fuel gauge to register the correct fuel levels.
2. If the truck is running on the rear fuel tank, the fuel runs out the front tank, and if the truck is running on the front tank, the fuel runs out the back tank.
All the wiring has all the right connections and volts and ohms checked out.
Everything seems to point to the rear fuel again, do I replace it again? I'm don't know.... please help !
There sure do seem to be a LOT of aftermarket fuel pumps with inop shuttle valves these days. Does your truck have the external check valves that Ford added due to such problems with their own pumps?
I don't see anything like that inop shuttle valve, where do I look?
Most people refer to that as a check valve, but the correct term is shuttle valve in this application. Just search on tank overfilling or something like that.
The problem with the use of the term 'check valve' is that there are more than one and do a completely different task than then check valve. The check valve is on the high side and the shuttle valve is on the return side. The shuttle valve is not a check valve.
There are actually 2 check valves in the pump assemblies and some have a pulse damper too
I have found after replacing 3 pumps min less than a year in my last 04, the recall check valves are the answer
Otherwise, put a zipper on the fuel pump
I put a zipper in my 94 van, now I can change the pump in 10 minutes from inside the van
I post pictures of these recall check valves often
I used to have a bunch of 'em
These are my last ones, if you come mow my lawn once a week, all next summer, I'll give you ONE We just called them one way valves. the longer ones are for the metal fuel lines like the 1995's have that need the special tool to remove
One of those recall check valves will fix it forever, (better yet, two valves if dual tanks)
Even the ones I see at the junkyard that are so rusty, you can't get them off, still work.
I can't be the only Ford boy with a few of these in my toolbox
You guys should check a few of the Mustang sites for seasoned Ford (master) techs and ask if anybody has any check valves
I used to give my extras away
Any Ford tech old enough to have dealt with those valves at the dealer is about ready to give it up
Means they should be about ready to part with their spare parts
I see no reason to believe that will not work
You may have just found the answer
Good job, buy two of them and plumb them in
Let us know
Good job
Speedway might have or make adapter fittings for AN fittings to quick connect fuel lines
If I'm not mistaken the inline check valve is for a separate problem and they go on the pressure line, I don't think a faulty shuttle valve on the return side will be corrected with one of these. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think they solve a different problem than the return shuttle failure.
Well I have a touch of a different twist going on. Changed front module due to overfilling while running back tank. I have done this 2 or 3 times before and not with no name parts. The last go around was with Delphi to replace a Delphi. So, I should replace the front pump again. Running the back tank will refill / transfer fuel to the front tank. The twist is running the front tank and siphoning the rear tank. I have change the tank selector switch from oe Motorcraft to Wells to Dorman and back. The switches check out with a multimeter. Front tank selected and power goes to the front pump and sending unit. Rear tank selected and power goes to rear tank and sending unit. This all happened after I changed the front module, it was all working good before. What in that front module could cause this?
