So I bought this truck that whacked a pole pretty good. It hit dead center and bent the frame rails in and actually hit hard enough so the fan clutch bent. Its all fixed now and the truck runs great except for this occasional scraping noise. My suspicion is the driver's side up pipe is hitting the firewall.
The pic below shows the original damage and I took a pic of where the up-pipe passes near the corner of the firewall about right where the gas pedal is. Not sure if you can see it but I have a white credit card jammed between the up-pipe and firewall and there is less than .030" clearance. Please note the card is flat and has no embossing so it's actually .030" and hard to jam in between.
I'm just wondering if this is normal clearance and if not, could it be possible that the front of the motor got whacked so hard it pushed back a little. I don't see anything on the motor mounts or trans mount that shows something moved but who knows.
If this is not normal clearance then I dread to ask how to move the motor forward about 1/4-1/2"or how to gain more clearance
loosen motor mounts and trans mount and see if you can move it some
An inpact like that can do strange things and yes it can be pushed back on the mounts if the fan clutch bent. My 74 Nova had similar damage hitting a tree in the center doing about 25 and the engine was against the firewall while still running and spinning a tire in the grass

I can't imagine how to move the motor forward even if mounts are loosened up but I'll give it a try the next time i have it on a lift, maybe a 6ft prybar wedged up it there somewhere. Maybe I'll first try a set of straps around the bumper and back of the motor or trans to winch it forward
