E4OD issues, it’s like an echo in here

1992 Ford F-150 5.0 v8 E4Od transmission, 2 wheel drive, 323k miles, engine rebuilt at 319k Transmission original, transmission fluid brand new, recently changed, with filter, nothing was unplugged or cut inside the pan, not much in the pan besides fluid, magnet was a bit gray but not covered all over the pan.

My issue is that I don’t have 4th gear, I’ve got 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and converter lockup

BUT I will say that lockup does seem to engage a bit too soon when it’s warmed up, going through the gears you can count them, then it’ll hit 3rd and immediately lock up the converter, then you can feel it unlock and try to shift to 4th and….

Nothing, you can feel it take that breath before it gets to the next gear but nothing happens, it just goes back to 3rd with lockup, kind of rough, computer is freshly repaired, everything else works perfectly, just a bit of weird lockup and no 4th gear, if I turn off overdrive I do not feel the attempt to shift to 4th any advice on what to look at would be great.

I know we all have our priorities, but with that many miles, I would have gone through the transmission when the engine was out.

I prefer to make a diagnosis before I make a repair, but with that mileage/age, it's a waste of time fixing it. Yeah, it's just my opinion but if you do fix it, something else will be failing a short time later.

BTW, fuel pumps are just electric motors and brushes tend to wear out. If you have not done fuel pump/s I would too. No reason to be on the side of the road. Just another stupid opinion.

don’t worry I already replaced the pump, tank and lines, fuel tank was rusted internally shoving debris into the injectors

Youre right I should’ve rebuilt the trans along with the engine but at the time it wasn’t showing any signs of problems, crisp firm shifts and clean fluid, it was always changed every 50k miles, so I thought nothing of it until it just stopped shifting to 4th one day

That's what happened to the E4OD in my F250. It was fine, then OD just wasn't there. I pulled the pan and found lots of shiny metal pieces. Had to have the trans rebuilt. Mine was only at 100k miles too! You got triple the miles mine did.
The guy who rebuilt it knew his stuff though. Been great for a decade now, so I can't cry too hard anymore hehe.
