Horn column guts
Some of my issues with finding parts for the steering is that with it being 4wd is that the steering box and steering shaft is all one unit. From the gear box to the nut holding my steering wheel it's one solid unit top to bottom. I have tried looking on LMC, Classic Ind, Denis Carpenter, etc looking for the horn parts but I can't seem to find a good print out or even a list for the 4wd which I know is different. Okay to stop running on and on now my question is dose anyone have the same truck situation and have a list of the parts to help me out or aid me in the direction I can go so I can get my actual truck horn going again? I do currently have on board air and two old-school semi deep tone 29" trumpets under the hood, one on top each fender so I'm not without warning noise by far.
Technically, Ford didn't make a short wheelbase/short bed 4x4 until 1966 in the F100 series only, but that was 115" (with a 129" long wheelbase for 1966 F100 4x4) and all the other long wheelbase 4x4 were 120" wheelbase - so only 5" different. I have two 1966 F250 4x4 that are both 120". Use the same horn and steering wheel as yours.
To make the stock horn setup work in your truck you will likely need to use an original style 18" 4-spoke steering wheel. Do you have one of those already? Two on eBay at the links below - one much nicer than the other and less money, too.
The horn button - or horn ring like the ones on eBay - is needed to use the stock horn contact and turn signal switch. The wheels were originally painted black for Standard Cab and white for Custom Cab trucks.
The horn contact and turn signal switch is reproduced now days but I still opt for genuine Ford parts for anything when I can find. I assume since you said only 1 wire under the steering wheel that is the horn wire most likely. If you don't want turn signals it will make your job easier, but I recommend turn signals myself.

YouTube video of testing the wire from the horn brush (13A831) in the steering wheel to the horn relay in the engine compartment. If that doesn't work, then the horn won't sound. I can give more details on how to set up the meter leads for that test if needed.
Feel free to ask more questions as they arise. As I mentioned I have two trucks with the same setup and also am a Certified Electronic Technician as well.

They also had kits that included the turn signal switch (with horn contact plate) and harness, turn lever, bulbs and small hardware for a dealership/mechanic or owner to add turn signals to a truck that didn't come with them.
More info here on the kits and other details.
