Just a guess.
My Bronco is 200 miles away and I am fairly certain I have a port inside, it has been years since I have had to do any electronic troubleshooting on it. Dad drives it more than I do.
It may be an aftermarket tune port added. The screws do not look standard to Ford and show rust. Screws may have been replaced at some time and may be stock port...
Does not look like any OBD port I’m familiar with, and 1993 should be OBD with the connector under the hood on the left fender.
Possibly a security system. The part that detaches is a ‘card’ programmed to the system. You’ll have to trace the wiring back to where ever it goes. Possible it has been deactivated, and just left there. Also possible it will not start with the card removed, but will run if the card is removed while running.
There is another thread on here with a similar system.
Thanks for helping me. I guess it's good to have because the key cylinder will turn without the key in it. Replacing it is on my long list of repairs. Hope this forum don't get tired of my many questions.
Try to find a factory Ford ignition lock with new keys on Ebay, better yet, buy a complete Ford lockset someday with the doors and glove box lock
On your 93, back in the day, you could have your door key measured, and then buy the right coded ignition lock (out of 5 possibilities IIRR) and have the 2 new keys re keyed to match your existing door keys
Now days, nobody in Ford parts knows how to do that anymore?
Maybe ask your local dealer, maybe they are long obsolete is why
