Anybody got any recommendations for can bushings for my 1999 F250 Ex cab? The S and B are like $500-600 and then there’s a set on eBay for $85 that say their polyurethane, same material as S and B. Any opinions? Hate to buy $85 and they fall apart.
I've put S&B on 3 trucks, 1 on my Dad's and another set on my truck and they're great. My 99 F250 4wd that has about 15k miles on them now and they've been great, no complaints. And in my opinion definitely rode better then stock. My Dad's '16 F350 4wd the stock mounts were deteriorating, we replaced them with the S&B and again their great. They are $500, but definitely worth it and you won't be disappointed! Also the S&B are made from a premium silicone. The polyurethane ones are no good, my grandfather put the same kind of $100 set on his 07 F350 and it ruined the ride quality, it was very stiff and he ended up taking them back off, returning them and going with the dorman brand. He no longer has that truck, but once he put the dorman ones on the ride quality was much better and like it was supposed to be.
Polyurethane body mounts work just fine (well name brand ones like energy suspension do anyway, knockoff are well ,knockoffs). Its the job of the suspension to control ride quality, the mounts are just there to stop vibration and allow some flex in the frame.
A kit like this;
Will replace garbage like this;
And give you mounts like this;
And despite what all the advertisements for the silly expensive mounts say, or how much the internet keyboard warriors repeat these advertisements, there is no perceivable change in ride quality with a poly mount compared to a stock body mount that's in good condition. This is from first hand experience (not from reading and blindly believing what a product advertisement has to say about their magical snake oil body mount) from several trucks over the years. And really, the ride quality of any 3/4 ton or larger truck is not going to be Cadillac smooth,,,because they're 3/4 ton or larger trucks. If you're concerned about ride quality, the money that would be spent on silly expensive body mounts is better spent on shock absorbers.
The only body mounts I know first hand that should be avoided are the stock replacement Dorman's, they work fine for awhile, but they only last about five years before they disintegrate like the factory mounts. I'd imagine the no-name knocks of anything would probably suck (think of stuff like sold on Amazon or eBay), there are even some knock silicone mounts out there that fall apart in short order too.
...
I went with the S&B's on my '99 after debating whether to go with stock or not. Also replaced the very old shocks with Bilsteins. Big difference. Figured I would be keeping the truck for quite awhile. Should have known better. Should have gone with cheaper options as I decided to sell it. Story of my life. Oh well!
huh....you decided to sell the truck overnight? Just cancel your order..or am I missing something.
Otherwise I think S&B or energy suspension are probably the way to go. but I wouldn't get energy suspension for anything other than cab mounts...I ran a bushing kit from energy years ago on my 79 and they didn't last. Also I thought S&B were silicon, not poly
Ya, you missed the fact that I am not the OP, just commenting on what I did with mine.
oh, okay
in my defense, i might have looked at this on my phone which does not show thread starter the same. If I posted on the laptop, the I just wasn't paying attention
