2004 rim struggles
I currently have 20" king ranch rims on it, with 35x12.5 mud tires. They rub when I crank it lock to lock.
fast forward to today. I need new tires and I don't want to put the new tires through the same torture.
I hate the majority of aftermarket wheels. I dont like fancy, I dont like any crazy wheel poke. I prefer my tires to be inside the fender lip. I don't mind the cali invader wheels but they are -25 offset. I've been thinking about some thin wheel spacers, but I only tow with the truck . Any issues there?
I'm looking for something similar to what's on the truck or the cali's . Any recommendations? Anyone have a measurement or pic of -25 offset wheels on an 04?
These are Moto Metals without the center caps with a 0 offset and Cooper 275/65R20 tires. They are the largest diameter tire I can fit without rubbing lock to lock. If I remember correctly they are 34.4” diameter. They stick out about 3/4” beyond the fenders.
Your original wheels along with those 20”s are hubcentric so using thin spacers like you mentioned may push the wheels out off of the hub leaving them uncentered.
Up until the end of ‘04 the only 16”+ OEM SD wheels were the 4 similar, but unique versions of the 5 spoke ‘04 Lariat, King Ranch, Harley Davidson and SVT 18”X8”. These 18” wheels have the correct geometry to properly fit the pre ‘05 trucks without the need for spacers keeping the tires inside the fenders where they belong. I run the ‘04 Lariat 18X8 wheels on my Excursion with 305/70R18 Nitto Dura Grapplers (35.25”X12.8”). The tires are completely under the truck and only slightly rub the front springs at full lock due to the bigger tires. This series of wheel are kind of rare but are still out there and are a good solid OEM choice for the pre ‘05 trucks.
This thread is from the Excursion section of the forum, I wrote it up for the big wagon folks but it also applies to the pickups up until model year ‘04.

I actually read a thread about your ex and the rims. Not sure if it was that one or not. I'll check it out shortly.
I've never seen a set of rims like that for sale near me.
