kill switch

Yo; anyone have a good ignition kill; that is-- part of the security sytem/alarm?

BTW; the alarm/keyless entry has got hinky on me. Dealer says can't figureit it out because it was an aftermarket; even though it was on the rig when purchased. Who to turn to for this??

Finally; any interest in my posting my MSRP sticker from the 96 ?

I too would love some info on kill switches.

I saw on here a while ago a thread about an ignition kill switch in the cigarette lighter. I loved that idea. I would love to get a Dummies Guide to Cigarette Lighter Ignition Kill Switches if anyone has any interest in helpin me out with that...

no... this one is just a switch, push button toggle maybe, in the place the cigarette lighter is. Push it in, bronco can start, push it in again (so it pops out a little bit) and the bronco wont start.... just sounds like dead battery.

Pretty cool idea, atleast I think so...

anywho, if anyone has a dumbed down version of how to go about this let me know.

thanks

Kill Switch

For anti-theft purpose, I installed a low-profile toggle switch (Radio Shack) inside the ash tray, on the rear face. Open the ash tray: reach in, flip the switch down for off, the Bronco won't start. I ran 2 wires from the inertia switch, located behind the rt. side front kick panel, to the toggle switch. On the inertia switch, find the hot wire from the switch to the fuel pump when the ignition is on. Cut the hot wire, and connect both ends to the 2 wires coming from the toggle switch. To mount the toggle switch, remove the ashtray, and drill a 3/4-in. hole in the rear side. Leave about 4 in. slack in wires for in/out movement of ashtray.Total cost: about $4.00. Works great.

Kill switch

The drill hole size in the rear of the ash tray is approximate. Measure your switch before drilling. The switch is a black, cresent moon-shaped toggle switch, very low profile. A white dot on the "on" side denotes "on". Paint it black to camoflage it. No one will see it once mounted. Very easy access from the driver's seat.

I believe only one hot wire runs to the inertia switch with the ignition on, then runs to the fuel pump after the switch (this is a safety switch that will deactivate the fuel pump in the event of a collision) Find the wire with a VOM meter or test light.

Good luck.

Good idea.
I might try that on my brothers Bronco
on my 66 F-100 I used the wiper bush button for the start button.
The key switch I replaced with a switch that has on/off/start
Instead of the on/off one... and then just connected the on from the key to the power on the button
Looks like a windshield washer thing
Works pretty well also
I dont think you can do that with a new bronco tho
I'll have to check it out on my Brothers 82
Sorry for the long post

Treehugger:

I made a version of the cigarette lighter switch you described some years back for a Mustang. Check out Radio Shack..... they sell several push on / push off switches. Mine wasn't fancy enough to use the lighter **** - I had to remove the **** / cut-off lighter, and push the button behind it. The switch was wired into your basic relay, which cut power to the starter solenoid (and wouldn't allow the car to crank). It would be easy enough to fabricate one of these that used the ****, also. You'd just have to use care in getting your clearances for the switch pushbutton right. Pick up a replacement lighter assembly (that will work on your truck) and go to Radio Shack. With some minor fabricating, it could easily be yours!

You can also wire switches in series with the 12v wire going to the coil... no 12volts = no spark = no steal...

Also put a switch in series with the "NEUTRAL" start wire. The vehicle won't even crank unless that circuit is closed... Because ya know when you have the Truck in R, 1,2 or D it won't start either..

What about one on the inline fuel pump not allowing power to that? Anything wrong about doing this? Would this be more difficult?

Just shooting out ideas here...
