Stock ford gages

How does every one feel about the quality of stock ford gages from the 80's? My oil preasure gage is bouncing like a rabbit. I have an aftermarket trio to put in it, is it tough to do?

THANKS

My 86's factory guages seem to work ok. If you are concerned about the oil pressure, you could hook a mechanical guage to the engine without mounting the guage inside. At least at idle and if you rev it up you can see what the pressure is really doing, and how it corresponds to your factory guage. If you see the factory one is way off you may want to perminantly mount your guages under the dash.

I have an oil, amp and temp gauge mounted under the hood on the drivers side. At first I was kinda messing around with an old set of gauges I had; but, it turns out having the gauges is pretty nice when you are doing repair and tuning.

If I could add one gauge it would be a vacuum gauge. That would be nice for carb adjustments.

ford didn't ever really build a good gauge set. my amp has never moved, even with no alt belt at night. the oil reads great pressure even thiugh it only has 10-15 psi at 2000 rpm warm(300k 351m) and as for the fuel gauges, even with the rotund tester it still bounces like a little boy on christmas. double or triple set in good quality (auto gauge minimum) and you will be set.
