It gets it ground from being installed, so one wire with a 90* rubber push on connector on the end stud of the cig lighter. Going towards the passenger side and up by the left hand side of the glove box. If you have a glove box interior light, the single cig lighter wire goes to a Y splitter (again to the left side of the glove box) and then that one wire goes to a black (2 green yellow stripe wire) 3 hole bullet connector. That is constant 12 V. This is a none a/c truck. The lone bullet connector is disconnected right now to keep my glove box light off.
Now on a a/c vehicle (79 Bronco) that same 3 hole connector is/was longer and ended up being able to come out way down low, below the dash when I was removing the evap box. You have a a/c truck in your pic, so easier to take glove box liner out (4 small screws) and push GB liner back away from opening and then look to the left for it. Caution the pressed metal edges of the glove box (in the dash) ARE SHARP!!
This one is keyed 12V over on the dvr side, behind the wiper switch area and is a single wire. Used for power for the cruise control.
Pay no mind to the red radio markings. Look west of that, Glove box switch and light. But it does not show the Y splitter for the cig lighter.
Yes and yes. Bulb in the end of the grey thing, do you have the y splitter right on the other side of the gray piece that the bulb goes in? Looks like maybe so.
This is what it looks like on the back of the grey thing. Do you know what bulb it takes?
I followed the red/yellow wires and it just takes me to the big wiring harness. I think I may need to start taking off pieces of the dash to get to it. Is the wire plugged in the back of your cigarette lighter green/yellow?
Yes that is where the glove box light bulb goes. Pg 2..... Glove compartment lamp. Industry # 1891 Part # B9SZ 13466A.
Old school glass bulb, very round and very small. So are you just wanting to make you cig lighter have power? Do you have constant 12V (NONE keyed 12V) at the glove box bulb receptacle? I will try to go check my trucks later, to see what color the cig lighter single wire is.
Really appreciate the help, yep just trying to see if I can get power to it so I can charge my phone. I think the plug is somewhere maybe up high and it’s just disconnected because there is nothing right now connected behind the cigarette lighter.
I’m not sure I will either go get a bulb to test it or use my multimeter.
Yes if you have constant 12V power and or the bulb works, then getting a wire from that to the back if the cig lighter is no big deal. Locating a push on single connector no big deal either. if you can locate the black 3 hole connector you can then wire direct from the 12V source.
